Sights That You Must Go In Frankfurt City Of Germany

There are lots of beautiful areas throughout Germany which are ideal as a base for spending a long weekend or holiday away from home.

But if you prefer cities to the more quiet areas of the country, then Frankfurt should feature high up on your list. It is one of the biggest cities in the whole of Germany, and is a vibrant and exciting place to be.

And of course it is experienced at catering for the tourists too. As you would expect from a city this size, it boasts several main locations that no self respecting tourist should miss. Just be sure to take your camera with you wherever you go!

Your first stop should be Romerberg Square. This is a very picturesque area, and one of the most famous locations in all of Frankfurt. But it hides a secret that not everyone is aware of. While the square has a long history which dates back centuries, some of the current buildings are only a few years old. This is because the square was a heavy casualty of the Second World War. The buildings have been renovated and recreated since then, but they are not the originals. With that said though, they still make for a stunning photo opportunity!

Going from the old to the new, the Main Tower in Frankfurt is another must see. This is located in the heart of the business district as you might expect, but it provides an ideal tourist opportunity as well. This is partly because of the viewing platform which is over 180 metres above ground level. If you have the stomach for it, grab your camera and get the best possible view over the city. And once you have done that you can enjoy a meal in the restaurant there too. It is a wonderful way to enjoy the view as well as sampling some of the city’s most delectable dishes.

If all the sightseeing builds up the need to explore some shops, don’t miss the Zeil. This is Frankfurt’s equivalent of Oxford Street in London, and it definitely should not be missed. One of the best parts of this area is that it is pedestrianised. This means that not only is there no traffic around to worry about, but you can also enjoy the greenery that has become a part of the design of this winding street.

As such, it makes an ideal venue for a day out all year round. During the summer the trees which form a green carpet down the middle of the Zeil act as a nice shady area to relax and rest your tired feet.

There is plenty more to discover in Frankfurt too. But if you do get stuck for ideas then many of the hotels in Frankfurt should be able to offer further advice on attractions to visit.

Go Open-Air in Rome This Summer

As renowned for its range of exquisite cuisine as it is for its breathtaking sights, it’s no wonder Rome is a popular tourist destination. Indeed, boasting a mixture of Renaissance and Baroque architecture and housing some of the most interesting attractions around, there is enough to keep even the most eager culture-vulture entertained.

And, alongside the warm temperatures, the summer promises both a wealth of open-air entertainment and the chance to bag an assortment of attractive bargains. In fact, with most Italians taking the month of August off, it is the perfect opportunity to experience all that Rome has to offer, without its usual hoard of people, and often at a lower cost!

Cited as one of the most interesting events hosted by the city, Fiesta - an annual world music festival - is definitely worth a visit. Offering up a diverse and colourful assortment of musical genres, from jazz and Latin music to sounds from the Caribbean, its programme is packed with fun and entertainment. Not only that, but there are also a number of food stalls and ethnic stands available for you to browse around.

Keeping in line with the musical theme, the Villa Celimontana Jazz festival is another great event to attend. Established in 1994, it has increased in popularity over the years and is one of the longest running events of its kind in Europe. And, what could be more perfect than relaxing under a shady tree whilst listening to some world-class jazz and sipping a cold glass of white wine?

The Marcellus Roman Theatre also plays host to a range of concerts and shows throughout the summer months. Celebrating the best in both Italian and international classical music, literature and poetry, there are over 100 performances to catch. And, set amongst one of Rome’s most scenic archaeological locations, it is well worth taking a stroll around before the entertainment begins.

If the hot weather is too much to handle however, then it might be a good idea to seek out the shady confines of one of Rome’s many parks. Scattered around the city, there are plenty to choose from and all offer up a stunning selection of beautiful views. To truly indulge, pack yourself a picnic and spend the day soaking up the summer atmosphere. Or, if you need to hit the water, then book a day trip to the beach. Only half an hour away from the city, the Mediterranean Sea can make for a great escape when the temperatures soar!

So, if you’re looking for a break this summer, Rome is always a worthwhile consideration. In addition to the numerous events and festivals on offer, there are a huge range of fabulous restaurants to eat in and Rome hotels to sleep in, meaning all budgets are catered for.

Discovering The Most Famous Markets of Bangkok

Covering 35 acres of land with more than 15,000 stalls and 200,000 visitors every Saturday and Sunday, Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok is without a doubt the largest market to be found in the city and one of the biggest and most famous markets in the world.

You can buy pretty much anything and everything there: household accessories, handicrafts, art, antiques, live animals, books, music, clothes, food, plants and flowers. The list could go on almost forever and if variety is what you are looking for, Chatuchak market is the place to go.

Thai handicrafts are a particularly good thing to pick up at Chatuchak market and the intense competition means prices are kept to a minimum. If you are searching for genuine antiques you need a trained eye as the large majority of antiques on offer at this market are fake so exercise caution if it is the real deal you are looking for.

Due to the size of Chatuchak market it is segregated into areas depending on the types of goods sold. This does make life a little easier and maps detailing the various sections can be picked up before you enter.

The official opening hours for the market tend to be from 9.00am to 6.00pm on Saturday and Sunday, though many of the stalls actually open between 9.00am and 10.00am and close around sunset.

There are many more markets to discover besides Chatuchak. Khao San road is a tourist hotspot and the market here sells clothes, books, CDs and similar items.

In close proximity to Khao San Road is the large Banglamphu market which extends over Phra Sumen Road and Chakrapong Road. This market tends to be more popular with the locals so take a trip here if you fancy a more authentic shopping experience.

Pratunam market is open around the clock and is one of the best places in Bangkok to pick up cheap clothes, fabrics and textiles. A little off the beaten track you can find this market at the intersection of Ratchaprarop and Phetburi roads.

Further down Phetburi road is the Nai Loet (also called Nai Lert) market, which is a scaled down version of Chatuchak.

If you like to do your bargain hunting at night time then Patpong night market may be of interest. Very popular with tourists you will find standard market wares here though the prices are not as competitive as you may find elsewhere.

Night markets are preferred by many as the temperatures are slightly lower after the sun falls and this makes for a slightly more pleasant bargaining experience. Temperatures in Thailand are fairly high all year round though it is slightly cooler from November until mid-February so this is something to bear in mind when booking your flights to Bangkok.

Dubrovnik - The Pearl of the Adriatic

Dubrovnik is a city located on the coast at the Southern most tip of Croatia, looking out over the Adriatic Sea towards Italy. The infamous poet, Lord Byron, called it the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, and this walled city with its renaissance architecture and lemon scented arcades really is a site to behold.

It is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the whole of the Adriatic, helped by its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In fact, in the middle ages it was the only eastern Adriatic city to rival Venice.

It is a bustling little city, and there is always something going on, whether it be the annual Dubrovnik summer festival which lasts a whole month consisting of live concerts, plays and games taking place in the streets, or one of the many religious events. Also, Dubrovnik and its surrounding islands offer a bountiful selection of activities for the thrill seekers such as coasteering, hiking, snorkelling in the crystal clear waters or water sports such as sailing and sea kayaking.

Approximately 12 miles from the city centre is Dubrovnik’s international airport, where flights arrive daily from, Paris, Vienna, Rome and Madrid, together with budget services from Liverpool, Bratislava, Dublin & London Gatwick to name but a few. However despite the number of visiting tourists the heart of Dubrovnik retains its charm, partly because there are relatively few places of accommodation actually within the old city walls, but these do exist if you search hard enough. These rare opportunities will usually take the form of villa style apartments or refurbished stone houses, some of which will be around 600 years old! There are of course many places to stay just outside of the old town walls, and this is where most tourists will reside.

Wherever you stay, towards the end of the day you can enjoy watching the sun go down behind the terracotta tiled roofs, whilst indulging in the fresh fish and local wines.

Glasgow:A Beautiful City To Explorer

Think of Scotland and you'll probably get an image of the lone piper in traditional Highland dress playing at the top of a mountain. Or you'll picture the quaint cobbled streets of fishing villages, the blasting personality of Edinburgh's Old Town and the gorgeous, dynamic images of the West Coast.

A lot of people don't think about the streets of Glasgow or the incredible city's large part in Scottish heritage, tourism and commerce. Glasgow is a city that's industrious in many ways: built during a period of great industrial growth, the sprawling city was founded on a great promise of bringing wealth to Scottish soil. This is reflected in the city's criss-crossed layout, organised to the last detail to encourage hard work and production.

But factories and warehouses aren't all Glasgow has to offer by a long shot. Step into the streets of this charming and beautiful city to experience the sight of some of the most magnificent architecture in the country. Marvel at Glasgow's Victorian housing and Charles Rennie Mackintosh art nouveau style buildings.

If intricate and delicate design is your taste, you'll want to visit the University of Glasgow's main building and stroll through the grounds of what can only be described as something that is to be seen to be believed. What's more, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, as well as the Glasgow City Chambers are all illuminating examples of what this city has to offer by way of breathtaking buildings.

But enough about the scenery - there's a reason so many Scots flock to Glasgow at nights and over weekends and that's because the city's shopping and social scenes are rivalled by none. If shopping is your wish then Glasgow holds the answer to your dreams. From bustling Buchanan Street's high street stores to the city centre's incredible wealth of theatres, nightclubs and bars, Glasgow has a nightlife bursting with character. No matter what your tastes, Glasgow will provide. Rock fans can hit the Cathouse or Garage, while the SECC looms at the edge of the city and hosts huge events from the hottest pop acts to large stand up comedy shows.

And as for culture, Glasgow is teeming with a vibrancy that would make other cities jealous. Edinburgh is the country's capital - and for good reason. However, there's no escaping that Edinburgh is shaped for the tourist industry and those seeking a real flavour of Scottish culture will find it in Glasgow. With all the best live music, theatre and comedy from the Scottish arts scene, as well as excellent cafes, bars, restaurants and art exhibitions, it is perhaps no surprise that there has been an increased popularity in flights to Glasgow when considering which big city to visit first in Scotland.

10 Tips for Easy Travel by CheapOair

1. Important Documents Make sure that you carry all important documents on your person, or in your handbag, or carry-on bag, like your passport, driver's license, ID card, Student ID, Visa, any and all important documents. As an additional safety measure, we suggest you make copies of all of your important documents and put them in a separate place in case you lose it; doing this will make it much easier to replace.

2. Carrying Cash Be extra careful while carrying cash. Frequent travelers suggest separating your cash in case your wallet is lost or stolen. Every time you reach into your wallet to pay for something, onlookers could be viewing the contents. Consider folding each bill individually, instead of carrying a big money roll. One of the best things to do is to carry your credit cards in your wallet, even if you lose your wallet, replacing credit cards is much easier than replacing lost or stolen cash, which is impossible. Also, the advantage of carrying credit cards is is that you can avoid currency exchange issues.

3. Bringing Valuables When travelling, all you need to carry are your documents and the bare essentials for your trip. You don't need to carry your valuables and run the risk of losing them. Valuables can make you more susceptible to theft. As the adage goes, "Out of sight, out of mind". You won't miss them, not really, and when you get home, they will be there waiting for you.

4. Check and Double Check Make sure that you have checked with the airlines regarding the departure of your flights. Schedules are subject to change, so call the airlines or log online to find out if your plane is on time or delayed. Though most travel agencies and airlines will have the answer, being proactive means you'll get the quickest and most accurate response.

5. Booking an All Inclusive Package Travelers new to travel might want to consider an all-inclusive package. All-inclusive vacations include most of the things required when making piece meal travel arrangements, such as flights, hotels, meals and airport transportation to and from the hotel. This would ensure that all your travel requirements are all taken care of and all you need to do is relax and unwind on your holiday.

Once you have experience travelling, create your own packages and design you own customized vacations.

6. Check in Ahead of Time With various airlines the process of check-in can be time consuming. To save time, log onto the airline website or OTA, like CheapOair, you booked your flight with, enter in your confirmation number and print your boarding pass. To avoid possible delays, and if you're traveling with a group of people, arriving at the airport early will help minimize stress.

7. Book Flights into Smaller Airports A common myth is that departing from a larger airport is the better option. However, the fact is that smaller airports are easier to move through and, more often than not, offer a better experience. Booked airline tickets into smaller airports can also save you some extra money. Larger airports offer diversified flight options and other conveniences, but that luxury might be paired with additional problems you can avoid. Let's not forget about the savings on flights!

8. Leave Time for Connections Always be smart and plan well, especially if you have connecting flights. The best is to go for a non-stop flight, but in case you need to book connecting flights, we suggest you give yourself ample time in between connections.

9. Call Ahead About your Hotel Reservations Always call the hotel directly, in advance of checking-in, to confirm your hotel booking. Confirm the room you booked and any special requests you've made are in place. Normally a time frame of two days prior to check-in is sensible. You don't want to end up in a situation where you are stranded with all your baggage and no place to stay.

10. Essentials 1. Carry your itinerary and keep a copy with your luggage - This will alert baggage officials to your travel plans in case you lose your luggage. Alternatively, have a copy handy in case you misplace them. 2. Bring a local map – In case you are travelling to a totally unknown place, carry a copy of the map. 3. Local Language: Knowing the basics of the local language in the destination you're visiting. It comes in handy while asking for directions, help and especially in case you need to go to the restroom.

Even though you might spend hours researching and planning a trip and doing your "due diligence", things still might go wrong. Delays, lost luggage, and mishaps all are part and parcel of travel. The best thing you can do is to expect the unexpected. Take a deep breath, laugh about it and promise yourself that you will have fun and relax, and that you won't let anything stop you from having a fabulous vacation.

Newcastle: Fun Capital of the North

The city of Newcastle has moved on significantly from its 1970s image of a run-down city, a desolate industrial landscape with dilapidated docks nestling on the banks of the Tyne, as portrayed in the dark film ‘Get Carter’ and comedic sitcom classic, The Likely Lads. If the images contained in those celluloid portrayals are your only impression of Newcastle then you won’t recognise the modern, bright Newcastle of today.

Major capital investment in the city over the past 20 years has seen the city restored to a magnificence that really deserves a wider audience. Not only has the city benefitted from major dockside and city centre refurbishment, but the addition of a state-of-the art 11,000 seat concert arena has also seen the city play host to the world’s top pop performers, with a forthcoming list that includes Tom Jones, Girls Aloud, Spandau Ballet and Pink, amongst others!

Sport too - particularly in the form of football club Newcastle United based and latterly the Newcastle Falcons rugby union team at – has also benefited from vastly improved facilities at St James Park and Kingston Park. Additionally, the introduction of new service and retail industries to the area has replaced its traditional reliance on declining heavy industries of mining and shipbuilding, and bringing a new era of affluence to the city.

Shopping is a pleasure in and around Newcastle. From the designer boutiques of the historic heart of the city in Grainger Town to the abundance of high street brand names in Northumberland Street or the Metro Centre in nearby Gateshead; whatever you want to buy, you’ll find it here.

The city also boasts its fair share of artistic and cultural venues. The Theatre Royal on Grey Street has been staging productions for almost 175 years. For the last 25 it has featured a Royal Shakespeare Company season and it also host to touring West End musicals. In addition, the Great North Museum, Laing Art Gallery and The Discovery Museum are all popular visitor attractions.

What's more, because of the tremendous rejuvenation of the city you will find plenty of weekend leisure travellers boarding flights to Newcastle from Heathrow and other regional airports every Friday evening. Many of those visitors will invariably spend their first evening in the city at the Bigg Market or the Newcastle Quayside; both noted venues for an outstanding night out and the major reason why the city was awarded The Rough Guide to Britain’s number one tourist UK attraction for nightlife.

Aberdeen: The Granite Fair City

Known as the Granite City, Aberdeen has a long and illustrious history and, because of its situation on the east coast of Scotland, has more recently become closely associated with the North Sea oil and gas industries.

This historic city gained its nickname due to the number of buildings constructed using locally quarried grey granite. Because of the granite effect it is also known as the Silver City, due to the mica and quartz deposits ingrained in the stone that gives off a silver sparkling effect in sunlight. When the skies are overcast and the mica fails to sparkle, it earns its third nickname of the Grey City.

Long before oil was discovered in the North Sea, Aberdeen was an important hub for the fishing and shipbuilding industries. But, during the last 30 years, more modern industries including electronics and oil have taken over leading to a new era of affluence for the city, which is Scotland’s third largest in terms of population. With more than 200,000 residents there is much to do in the city in terms of leisure, culture and entertainment and Aberdeen is fast becoming a tourist hot-spot as more visitors expand their horizons beyond Scotland’s big draws of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Getting there by road from the south involves taking the scenic A90 from Edinburgh (via the M90), which by-passes the city forming the main route to the north and the cities of Peterhead and Fraserburgh; access to the glorious Cairngorms is via the A93 to the west. Once in the city there is lots to do including some glorious shopping, fabulous sightseeing and, if the weather permits, a stroll along the sandy beach.

As you can see, although it is the UK’s second most northerly large city, some 100 miles north of Edinburgh, it is relatively easy to get there. The city boasts prominent rail-links with Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, as well as flights to Aberdeen, which arrive at Dyce International Airport.

Much of the city was built from the 18th century onwards, with glorious Georgian avenues such as Castlegate and Union Street still prominent thoroughfares. The latter is near to the medieval townhouse of the Provost Skene’s House and close by in cobbled streets of Old Aberdeen is found the impressive 15th century St Machar’s Cathedral featuring its tall twin towers.

Whether visiting for culture, history or the marvellous designer stores at the Academy Shopping Centre, you will find Aberdeen a warm, friendly and welcoming city, regardless of the granite!

Absolutely Stunning Night-time OF Puerto Vallarta

Night-time in Puerto Vallarta can be absolutely stunning, especially when the weather cooperates. The shimmering sunlight of daytime gives way to an entirely different kind of energy after sunset. The city seems to dress for the occasion: the breeze caresses you face as you walk along the Malecón; twinkle lights glitter around the zocalo. The evening is calling, so put on some real clothes and step out of your Puerto Vallarta Vacation rental for an after-hours adventure.

Okay, you’re not the type who enjoys clubbing, and you wouldn’t be caught dead with a karaoke mike in your hands. You can stop hyperventilating . . . there are plenty of ways you can use your energy and ambition (or lack thereof) under the light of the moon, the silvery moon, to enjoy some great singing and dancing.

A fine act to follow

Do you like theater? While it might not be at the top of everyone’s list, Puerto Vallarta is home to two theatres that offer delightful entertainment. The students and staff at Centro Universitario de al Costa have a lot going on, and some of it happens in the evening. You can check the school’s website, if your Spanish reading skills are up to speed, or you can look for theater and film events in the local newspapers.

The Santa Barbara Theater, at Olas Altas 351, features productions of English-language musicals during the winter season. For an additional charge, you can make it a dinner theater experience. This is a local theater group, not quite ready for a Broadway opening, which does nothing to diminish the entertainment quotient.

For love of the dance

Another winter favorite (late October through April) is the Old Town artWalk. A number of different galleries in Old Town stay open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., enticing visitors to come in by tempting them with tapas and beverages. This is your chance to enjoy colorful folk art, beautiful pieces in glass and ceramic, and lovely art jewelry while you totally ignore that “No food or beverages” rule.

And there is simply no way you can say “no” to the vivid colors, brilliant music and electric vitality of the Grupo Folklórico Municipal Xiutla. The young people who dance with this group have been around the world performing, and they are frequently found flashing their heels somewhere in Puerto Vallarta. So put on your glad rags and head out the door; you’ll present a dashing picture when you depart your Puerto Vallarta Vacation Rental for a night of arts in the dark.

York -"The Edinburgh of the north" Must Visit Place

For those who have visited and loved Edinburgh, York can be best described as "the Edinburgh of the north". With stunning buildings, a wonderfully winding and twisting old town and a history packed with excitement and adventure, York and Scotland's capital have far more in common than just what meets the eye - though looks make for a convincing argument, too.

York rates highly for short breaks because it's such a delight to visit. If you care about where you choose for your holiday rather than just the idea of going on holiday itself, York could be the place for you. You can spend days exploring its labyrinthine streets and finding something you never noticed before every time. The historic Shambles is packed full of delightful shops specialising on wares from beautiful medieval style weapons to the finest in homemade chocolates.

There are abounding markets stocked with various crafts and cookery, including clothing you'll find nowhere else, breathtaking jewellery and brilliant toys, particularly puppets and ventriloquist style dummies set to get the imagination going.

The thing about York is there's something for everyone. Capitalising on its ancient city persona, there are plenty of attractions around for the history-conscious, from the castle to the majestically Gothic York Minister and York Viking Centre. Every night, there are a choice of ghost walks that take you through the town and tell absorbing stories of York's morbid and haunting past. For true fans of the unexplained, the story of the Roman soldiers walking at hip-height through the basement of an old house will thrill, while tales of a demon dog roaming the streets at night will strike fear into even the canniest of tourists.

Perhaps best of all about York is the locals. Friendly and fun, you'll never be short of people to chat to on your travels. Pubs and bars are a great place to meet people, as well as to sample locally-brewed ale that tops the chart of many connoisseurs. Brewed in a variety of styles with many well-known brand names having worked their way to the top, York and Yorkshire ale is something that will stay in your memory for a long time after your trip to this gorgeous city, contained in ancient walls, is over.

There are plenty of reasons to go to York, which is why it's a good idea to start planning what to include in your itinerary as soon as you can. And if you don’t know where to start then many of the York hotels should be able to offer further information on what to do with your time in York.

At each, the standard guestrooms are oversized and elegantly comfortable and vary in décor only by degree: They're all furnished with warm woods against a palette of contemporary neutrals; accents come in earthy tropical tones. While none of these properties is especially new, they go beyond providing luxury and relaxation; they inspire a sense of privilege and of having arrived. That’s why it’s called as one of the best hotels in Hawaii.

Asturias : On Of The Best Place For Making Holiday

Asturias and Cantabria, northern Spain Part of the green coast, because of the amount of rainfall. An autonomous region within Spain it used to be a separate kingdom during the middle ages when the country was still divided. Despite the fact that over the last few years, the shoals of the Cantabrian Sea have been depleted somewhat, more than half of the coastal village's populations still make their living from the sea. A large part of the catch is still caught with hook and sinker and as any fish expert will tell you, this is the only way to guarantee the freshest of fish. Unlike many regions of Spain, great steps have been taken to preserve the beauty and majesty of the impressive coastline which is largely unspoilt by development with a fantastic range of clean sandy beaches. The main and most compelling reason to visit Asturias is its superb cuisine, which is rated very highly even among the Spanish. With an economy dominated by farming, crop harvesting and fishing, the way of life in Asturias has retained a continuity that most other parts of the country have now lost.

Geography Asturias and Cantabria sit on the Northern coast of Spain facing out towards the Atlantic, into The Cantabrian Sea. Asturias is bordered in the East by Cantabria and in The West by Galicia. The principal city and capital in Asturias is Oviedo. Other major towns and cities are the seaport and largest city Gijon, and the industrial town ofAviles.

The region represents just over 2% of Spain and has a population in 2006 of around 1.1m. The region has some of Spain's best natural parks. The mountains known as the Picos de Europa stand towering over a region of fast flowing rivers, vast orchards and tiny farmhouses. Inland the area is rich in minerals. Oviedo, the capital of Asturias is home to about 200,000 people and is known for its university and its industry. The beauty of the area is envied by many Spanish city dwellers.

The Cantabrian Mountains(Cordillera Cantábrica) form Asturias's natural border with the province of Leon to the south. In the eastern range, the Picos De Europa National Park contains the highest and arguably most spectacular mountains, rising to 2648 metres (8688 ft) at the Torrecerredo peak. Other notable features of this predominantly-limestone range are the Parque Natural de Redes in the central east, the central Ubiñas south of Oviedo, and the Parque Natural de Somiedo in the west. The Asturian coastline is extensive, with hundreds of beaches, coves and natural sea caves. Most of Asturias' beaches are sandy, clean and bordered by steep cliffs, on top of which it is not unusual to see grazing livestock. However it should be noted that water temperature even in Summer remains on the chilly side, it does not attain Mediterranean temperatures which some Spanish visitors may expect.

Climate The climate of Asturias and Cantabria, is more varied than that of southern parts of the country. Summers are generally humid and warm, with considerable sunshine, but also some rain. Winters are cold with some very cold snaps. The cold is especially felt in the mountains, where snow is present from October till May. Both rain and snow are regular weather features of Asturian winters.

What’s there – attraction – landmarks The Cantabrian mountains, and especially the Picos De Europa, offer opportunities for activities such as climbing, walking, horse riding, canoeing, skiing and caving, and extend some 200 km in total, as far as Galicia province to the west of Asturias, and Cantabria province to the east. See National Parks.

Oviedo, Astrurias Oviedo, the capital city of Asturias: a clean, picturesque city with a diverse architectural heritage. Santa María del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo, a pre-Romanesque church and a palace respectively, which were built by the first Asturian kings on Mount Naranco, to the north of the city.

Covadonga Covadonga is situated just to the west and north of the Picos de Europa mountain range in the heart of Asturias' walking and hiking country. Covadonga so possesses a religious sanctuary with a splendid and historic basilica, a mythical grotto, a museum and both a statue to, and the tomb of, Asturian and Spanish hero, Pelayo. The shrine to the Virgin Mary of Covadonga and the mountain lakes (Los Lagos), near Cangas de Onís. Legend has it that in the 8th century, the Virgin blessed Asturian Christian forces with a well-timed signal to attack Spain's Moorish conquerors, thereby taking the invaders by surprise. The reconquest and eventual unification of all Spain is therefore said to have started in this very location.

Llanes, Asturias Llanes possesses a number of fine beaches (for example Barro and Ballotta) . Also nearby is an unusual rock formation, best viewed at low tide, on the beach at Buelna village, just East of Llanes.

Comillas, Cantabria Comillas is about 50 km West of Santander in Cantabria and 11km east of San Vincente de la Buquera in Asturias, and sits on the coast and is a designated historic-artistic site. It has cobbled streets and squares with ancestral houses, towers and Modernist style buildings. Special mention should be made of: "El Capricho", a building designed by Antoni Gaudí, with its unmistakable portico and ceramic wall decoration; Sobrellano Palace, a Neo-Gothic construction; the Pontifical University, which dominates the whole village. Comillas has fine sand beaches, perfect for water sports. Alongside the beach you will find Oyambre Nature Reserve, a large coastal area with dunes, cliffs, marshland and an estuary, with a wealth of bird life. We would recommend walks on the trails that run through the village.

Ribadesella, Asturias Located slightly to the west of Llanes, Ribadesella is beautiful coast facing town with the Picos de Europa mountains behind it and the ocean to its front. The town is estuarial and sees the meeting of the ocean and the river Sella (renowned with canoeists for its famous descent) from which Ribadesella derives its name. The town is famed for its quaint old quarter. You will see interesting and highly colourful buildings, little paved squares, lots of cafes and an atmosphere filled old quarter with an active market and a number of shops and stalls. Many of these shops concentrate in the local specialties of chocolates and cakes as well as Asturian cheeses for which the region is famous. Goat and lamb’s cheeses are a particular specialty. Ribadesella is the archetypal former Asturian fishing village turned cultural tourist hotspot. It has a very popular beach, "la playa de Santa Marina" on one side of its estuarial river and the original old town on the other. The two districts are linked by a bridge, the “Puente del Sella”, which is accessible by car and foot. The river Sella forms a natural divide across the town with the older parts of Ribadesella being found to the east of the river, whilst across the bridge to the west lay the more recent expansions of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The town's original harbour is at the foot of the old district and it is still operational and well worth exploring. The surrounding areas adjacent to the town also boast ancient caves (particularly the "Tito bustillo" which you need to book well in advance) with prehistoric cave paintings within it. Information about these and the town itself can be picked up from the town's tourism office which lies in a prominent position close to the old bridge.

Other Atrractions • Ceceda village: east of Oviedo along the N634 road. Of particular interest in this exemplary settlement are the traditional horreo grain silos, raised on stilts so as to keep field mice from getting at the grain. • The Dobra River: south of Cangas de Onis, famous for its unusual colour and natural beauty. • The senda costera (coastal way) between Pendueles and Llanes: this partly-paved nature route takes in some of Asturias' most spectacular coastal scenery, such as the noisy bufones (large water spouts created naturally by the erosion of the sea) and the Playa de Ballota.

National Parks in Asturias

Picos De Europa The Picos De Europa National park, and other parts of the Asturian mountain range: The most famous mountain in the park is the Picu Urriellu (2519 m or 8262 ft), also known as El Naranjo de Bulnes, a molar-shaped peak which glows orange in the evening sun, hence its name. You can take a cable car to the summit and see the eagles circling. Weather permitting, it can be viewed clearly from Camarmeña village, near Poncebos, south of Arenas de Cabrales. This is the most extensive park and natural area in Asturias / Cantabria.

Parque Natural de las Fuentes del Narcea y del Ibias Apart from the great landscape beauty of the Reserve, its most important feature is its unique species of fauna, that are almost mythical, such as the brown bear, capercaillie and wolf. The Reserve is formed by the high basins of the river Ibias and Narea, and closed to the south by sierra de Degaña, and the north by that of Caniellas. Inside you can find the Reserves of Muniellos and Cueto de Arbás, habitats where different populations of brown bear and capercaillies are protected. Other outstanding species are the peregrine falcon, partridge, Pyrenean muskrat, grey dormouse; as well as the roe deer, wild boar, wild cat and martens.

Parque Natural de Redes UNESCO declared the Redes Nature Park a Biosphere Reserve in the year 2001. To the south of the Principality of Asturias, the beech and oak forests unfold, which shelter more than 50 mammal species and 130 bird species. For the most part, this territory is part of the Nalon river basin, in the townships of Caso and Sobrescobio. In this section you can find elevations that range between 400 and 2,000 metres, the Torres Peak being the highest of them. As a whole, this park consists of a rugged relief, crossed by watercourses, defiles and narrow valleys. In addition, rain has eroded the calcareous substratum creating karstic elements like abysses and dolines. In the beech and oak forests you can also find holly trees, yews and ferns. In the mountain passes, the landscape is completed with the colours of narcissus, heather and bilberry. This flora provides the optimal spaces for the reproduction of protected mammals like the brown bear and the otter. There is also an abundant bird life, with about 130 species, among which the capercaillie, the golden eagle, the Egyptian vulture and the goshawk must be pointed out. The rocky areas and the scrubs are the habitat of different types of birds. The most numerous game species include red deer, chamois and wild boars. Among domestic animals, the Asturian mountain cow is the most common.

Parque Natural de Somiedo UNESCO declared the Somiedo Nature Park a Biosphere Reserve in the year 2000. The landscape in Somiedo is characteristic of the ecosystems found in the Cantabrian Mountains. This Park is known, most of all, for sheltering the great majority of specimens of brown bear in Europe that are still living in the wild.

Somiedo is located south of the Principality of Asturias, coinciding with the township of the same name. The park is located in the region known as "Damp Iberia", the remarkable climate of which is characterised by mild winters, fresh summers, humidity, heavy clouds and frequent rain. This climate has encouraged lush vegetation, with abundant beech forests and a wide variety of oak groves, like pendunculate oak, melojo oak, birch oak, alder tree, holm oak as well as fresh, deep forests. The fauna in Somiedo is, in general, very similar to that found in the rest of the Cantabrian Mountains. In fact, in the Nature Park you can find all the great mammals of the mountain range, along with a great number of small mammal species, more than one hundred bird species and around twenty species of amphibians and reptiles. The populations of brown bears, capercaillies, wolves and otters are especially interesting.

Beaches in Asturias

With over 120 miles of coastline there are too many beaches to list individually as the entire area made of frequent sandy coves. Notable beaches include the Playa del Silencio (Beach of Silence) near the fishing village of Cudillero (west of Gijon), as well as the many beaches around the Summer resort of Llanes, such as the Barro and Ballota. Also Playa de la Franca between Llanes and San Vincente de la Barquera. Things to Do in Asturias Sea Fishing, river fishing (salmon and trout), walking, climbing, cycling, canoeing, pot holing, caving, sailing, culture, art and museums, cooking, eating and drinking, tennis, golf, beaches and swimming.

During the winter period, EasyJet usually reduces flying frequency to four flights per week.

South Africa : The Place Of Game Reserves And National Parks

You have worked your fingers to the bone this year, plus you are tired and run down. What about a tour in South Africa to relax and revive your tired senses! You’ll have so much fun considering all the options. South Africa is such a beautiful, diverse country with so much to offer. Consider our wildlife; our famous ‘Big Five’ which consist of the buffalo, elephant, rhinoceros, leopard and of course the majestic lion. With this in mind, our game reserves and national parks are absolutely fantastic; therefore I have enlisted a few options for a safari in South Africa.

• Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve: This game reserve is situated in the picturesque Kwazulu-Natal. There are four lodges to choose from when staying there, namely: Gqoyeni, Hlathikhulu, Masinda and Nselweni. These lodges are truly luxurious and one can see that they really make the effort to ensure that you get the most out of your safari in South Africa. The activities available to you are both numerous and exciting. If you feel the need for a bit of tranquility, consider the boat tour that they offer twice daily. They have auto- and self-guided foot trails and even day walks if you love exploring and discovering all the fauna and flora in this reserve. Throughout the park, they have picnic sites where you are given the option to have a braai (BBQ), or just enjoy a sandwich. The most exciting is the game drives; as the open vehicle gives you more viewing space. You can choose to view the wildlife in the daylight, or during a lovely moonlight drive. Take note that this park is a malaria area, so be sure to take the necessary precautions.

• Marakele National Park: This park is located in Limpopo and is surrounded by the exquisite Waterberg Mountain Range. You will be bowled over by the scenery and majestic wildlife. There are comfortable open 4x4 vehicles for game viewing. For those fit as a fiddle, there is a mountain pass to be explored which has the most amazing views. Bird watchers will also appreciate this pass because they will get the chance to see the endangered Cape Griffin Vulture; so ensure that you have your binoculars nearby. Stay at the Tlopi Tented Camp, as it is furnished and overlooks the beautiful Apiesrivierpoort Dam. The camp is not surrounded by a fence, thus watch out for the chacma baboon and vervet monkey, they are known for their mischievousness.

• Madikwe Game Reserve: It is located roughly ninety kilometers from Zeerust in the North-western Province. It is one of the best preserved areas in South Africa. This reserve is home to the Big Five and game drives are available day and night. There are eleven lodges established within Madikwe Game Reserve. Marvel at the breathtaking vistas, the lavish suites and relax on the decks with their beautiful views of the Marico River. They offer bush walks and there is a vast amount of birdlife to view. This is an excellent option for a safari in South Africa.

You don’t need to spend a ridiculous amount of money for a trip overseas as you can experience so much more, for so much less. You can even make a fun road trip out of it and spend some quality time with your family as opposed to flying. Don’t hesitate to start planning for a tour in South Africa.
