Have Some Fun in the Sun New York Style

With summer fast approaching, it is most definitely time to start thinking about donning the sunglasses and packing those suitcases. Indeed, after participating in the rat race of daily life, there can be nothing more relaxing than taking a well-earned break. And, if excitement and cultural entertainment is what you’re after, then make sure you head to New York.

Cited as one of the most exciting and popular tourist destinations around, the renowned American city is well worth the visit. Providing visitors with an electric atmosphere and a plethora of activities to do and sights to see, you certainly won’t be left disappointed.

In addition to boasting attractive temperatures, the city also plays host to a number of exciting (and often wacky) annual summer events, carnivals and festivals, making it an ideal destination to head to. And, from music concerts to mayhem on the streets, there is something to tickle everyone’s taste buds.

For example, the NYC Food Film Festival is a great event to attend, and one which will certainly leave you hankering for more! Currently in its third year, it is held at the city’s Water Taxi Beach and draws a huge crowd of people eager to watch the films on offer and sample the accompanying food, which is always based around one of the film storylines.

Established over 100 years ago, the Feast of the Giglio is another fun-filled experience to be enjoyed. Held in honour of San Paolino di Nola, a southern Italian patron saint, the 11 day festival kicks off with 100 men carrying a 65-foot papier-mâché statue around the streets. There are also carnival rides, live street performances and plenty of Italian cuisine on offer.

To indulge in all things arty, make sure you head to the New York International Fringe Festival. Established in 1996 and jam packed with theatre, comedy, music and dance performances, it attracts over 75,000 visitors every year. Held over 16 days, it boasts over 1,300 performances, meaning there is enough entertainment to keep you occupied all day long!

If you fancy taking part in something a little more unusual however, then check out the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. Held every year for the last 26 years, it is famous for being America’s largest art parade, as well as for housing some of the most outlandish costumes around. Attracting both celebrities and tourists alike, it is well worth the visit.

So if you’re going stir-crazy in the office, it may be time to start thinking about a summer holiday. With so much to see and do, and numerous New York hotels to stay at, the Big Apple could be an ideal place for a holiday this summer.
