When looking for a holiday that involves diving, it’s always best to aim for a resort that caters to your level of ability. If you choose to take a scuba diving course before you go then you can afford to spend less time studying and more time diving - and the Maldives offers plenty of dive sites to ensure you make the most of this experience.
Meeru Island Resort is perfect for beginners due to its easily accessible outside reefs and shallow lagoons. You can even choose to learn at your resort and prepare yourself for some snorkelling, which offers a fantastic way to experience the fascinating sea life. Indeed, a whole new world lurks beneath the surface - a world of flamboyant fish, beautiful coral and even baby sharks.
It is also good to know that Meeru offers excellent facilities for intermediate and advanced divers. Here you can hire a speedboat or dhoni for day trips, whilst there are tank dives available to famous dive sites such as Fairy Tale, The Maldives Wreck and Nassimo Thila.
Lily Beach is a good resort for both beginners and experienced divers - where Ari Atoll proves famous for its whale sharks and manta rays between January and May. Here there is also access to shallow lagoons protected by reefs, which is ideal for beginners who wish to get a genuine feel for the underwater world.
Kurumba is another popular resort for beginners, due to its easy outside reefs and shallow lagoons, which provide the perfect learning environment. There are excellent facilities for those who are more experienced; especially with the advanced diving dhoni available for day trips, and dives to the legendary Manta Point and Okobe Thila.
Atoll Explorer is a Maldives cruise that caters mainly for intermediate and advanced diving, but will adapt to suit beginners too - so everyone can get a taste for the ocean. Due to the flexibility of the boat moving through a range of atolls, there are a variety of dive sites to cater for everyone. Beginners will be taken into shallow lagoons en route and, in general, dives will be adapted to the level of experience the divers have.
As you can see, there are many resorts to choose from which cater for divers of every level; whilst many of the Maldives hotels should be able to provide additional information on the resorts available - if it is required. And such information is good to know - especially if getting under the waves whilst being surrounded by beautiful scenery appeals to you.
